Patriots Point attendance, revenue rise in 2012 fiscal year

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC)- Patriots Point is celebrating a successful 2012 fiscal year as the "Home of the USS Yorktown" posted big attendance and revenue numbers.

According to the 2011-2012 Patriots Point Intercept Survey Report, Patriots Point saw paid attendance rise 6% over projections, and increased its total operating revenue by nearly $500,000 over the previous year. The 2012 fiscal year ended on June 30, 2012.

"In a year punctuated by fluctuating gas prices and economic uncertainty, we had a very positive year, and that's something to be proud of," said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette.

Nearly 235,000 guests visited Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum over the fiscal year. Overnight camping, educational programs, and event participation added another 60,000 guests.

Patriots Point also had a positive financial impact throughout the tri-county, with an estimated annual economic impact of $50 million, according to the survey report.

Officials at Patriots Point are hopeful that future plans, including the first phase of the Museum Experience Master Plan that will ultimately add new technology and hands-on activities to the Yorktown, will help increase visitation by another 30,000 guests over the next three years.
